From S.T.E.A.M. to S.T.E.M...and Back again!

For parents familiar with the extracurricular side of education, S.T.E.M. was a popular program pushed by every school district to promote children's interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Prior to this program, The Arts were a crucial component of the program as well. It was widely accepted that a creative thinker are more likely to be successful in the science and technology fields of work. However, in 2001, The Bush Administration pushed the No Child Left Behind initiative and as a result, cut fine arts programs from schools across america. Fine Arts departments across America took a huge blow, but recently a new law has passed that could be the rebirth of quality music education in public schools.
In this article from the National Association for Music Education (NAMfME) The association takes the time to explain the importance of the, now passed, act and how it will affect future schools. This is a great stride for music education in public schools; now students will receive the opportunity to gain exposure to quality music education supported by the state and federal government!
